UTEP guard William Smith, a senior from Bay City, Texas (Bay City HS), averaged 16.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in two victories last week.
On Wednesday, Smith scored 19 points in an 84-58 win over Loyola Marymount. On Saturday night, he scored 14 points (11 in the second half) and pulled down a career-high 14 rebounds in a 73-66 win at New Mexico. Smith played all 40 minutes of the game. The victory gave UTEP a sweep of New Mexico and was its first in Albuquerque since the 1989-90 season. For the week, he shot .448 from the field (13-29) and was 2-of-5 from three-point range and 5-of-8 from the free throw line.
