Hawai`i guard/forward Predrag Savovic, a sophomore from Herceg Novi, Yugoslavia (Alabama-Birmingham), helped Hawai`i win its fourth tournament title of the season as he was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Outrigger Hotels Rainbow Classic.
Savovic averaged 18.3 points and 4.0 rebounds in three wins over Bradley, Colorado and Oregon. Against Colorado, he scored a game-high 25 points and 11 of the Rainbows' final 13 points of the game, to lead Hawai`i to a 76-74 victory. In the championship against Oregon, he scored a team-high 21 points and made 3-of-4 free throws in the final minute to clinch a 66-63 win.
In the three games, he was 25-of-30 (.833) from the free throw line and made 6-of-12 three point attempts. Other nominations from Dec. 27-Jan. 2, included: junior guard Jeryl Sasser, SMU; junior forward Brandon Wolfram, UTEP; and sophomore guard Greg Harrington, Tulsa.
