Njubi, the WAC individual champion, outdistanced himself from the competition at the South Central Regionals to earn the individual title and a chance to compete at nationals. A native of Kenya, Njubi, a junior, covered the 10K-terrain in 30:46. Fellow Kenyan and teammate Mwangi, also a junior, crossed seventh in 31 minutes and 24 seconds to earn an automatic berth.
In the women's competition, Keitany, the WAC individual champion, paced herself to a third-place finish to earn an automatic invitation to the NCAA race. The junior from Kenya, who earned four individual titles this season, clocked a time of 20:39 on the 6K-course at the University of North Texas.
UTEP's Looper, whose fifth-place effort at the Mountain Regionals in Ogden, Utah was enough for a spot at nationals, will join Keitany. Looper, a native of the Netherlands clocked a time of 21:31. The Miners' top runner, the junior finished in the top five in all six meets this fall.
The women's race will begin at 11 a.m. and will be followed by the men's competition at 12:15 p.m. eastern time. Championship information can be obtained via the Internet at NCAAChampionships.com, or NCAA.org.
