DENVER, COLO. Fresno State guard Courtney Alexander has been named the Western Athletic Conference men's basketball player of the week.
Alexander, a senior from Durham, N.C. (Virginia), averaged 23.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals in two road victories over 12th-ranked Tulsa and Rice. In a 73-72 win against Tulsa, he scored 25 points and hit the game-winner with 30.1 seconds remaining. It was just the Bulldogs' second lead of the night with the first being 2-0. It was the first loss at home this season for Tulsa. At Rice he scored 22 points to lead Fresno State to its second road sweep of the season, 69-57. The Bulldogs are now 9-3 in the WAC and tied with SMU for second, just a game and a half behind Tulsa. Fresno State swept Tulsa this year and is the only WAC team to beat the Golden Hurricane.
