Four Women's Basketball Players Have Jerseys Honored

Knoxville, TN - The college jerseys of four WAC women's basketball players are currently displayed in the Ring of Honor at the Womens Basketball Hall of Fame. The Ring of Honor recognizes and celebrates the accomplishments of high school and collegiate All-Americans. The players are in an exclusive group of 40 women from across the country to have their jerseys currently displayed at the Womens Basketball Hall of Fame.

The four include two seniors and two incoming freshmen from Louisiana Tech and Nevada. The Lady Techsters are senior Ayana Walker and freshman Erica Smith while the Nevada players are senior Kate Smith and freshman Amber Stimac.

Louisiana Tech senior Ayana Walker is a 2001-02 preseason first team All-American (Womens Basketball News Service). She was also a 2001 USA Basketball Womens National Team member, 2000-01 Honorable Mention All-American, Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Most Outstanding Player at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament and La Techs Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year to name a few.

Nevada senior Kate Smith was named honorable mention Kodak All-American and was a All-WAC first team member last season after being the WAC's second-leading scorer and seventh-best rebounder.

Louisiana Tech freshman Erica Smith had her high school jersey honored. Her accomplishments include: Parade All-American, Miss Basketball by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, Arkansas Gatorade Player of the Year and MVP at the Arkansas High School All-Star Game.

Amber Stimac, a freshman at Nevada, also has her high school jersey on display. She led Chaparral High School to a 33-1 record and a state championship this past season. Her accomplishments include: three-time all-state selection, East Sky Region and Scottsdale Player of the Year and the Arizona Republics Big-School Girls Basketball Player of the Year.

The Womens Basketball Hall of Fame, located in downtown Knoxville, Tennessee, is the worlds only hall of fame dedicated solely to the athletic achievements of women.
