Men's Basketball Player of the Week (Nov. 19)

DENVER Fresno State forward Chris Jefferies has been named the Western Athletic Conference mens basketball player of the week.

Jefferies, a junior from Fresno, Calif. (Arkansas), averaged 21.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists in a pair of victories in the opening rounds of the Preseason NIT. Against Montana State, he scored a career-high 25 points, dished out six assists and had two blocks and two steals. Against No. 23 Southern California, Jefferies scored a game-high 18 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. For the week, he was 14-of-28 from the field, 5-of-8 from three-point range and 10-of-15 from the free throw line. With the two wins, the Bulldogs advanced to the semifinals of the Preseason NIT and face Wake Forest on Wednesday night.

The other nominations were sophomore guard/forward Carl English, Hawaii; senior guard Gerrod Henderson, Louisiana Tech; sophomore guard Garry Hill-Thomas, Nevada; freshman forward Michael Harris, Rice; senior guard Damon Hancock, SMU; and junior forward Roy Smallwood, UTEP.
