SMU sophomore Alenka Kejzar has been named the Western Athletic Conference athlete of the week for womens swimming and diving.
Kejzar, a native of Kranj, Slovenia, posted an NCAA automatic qualifying time in the 400 I.M. at the SMU Swimming & Diving Classic, Nov. 2-3. Kejzars time of 4:14.92 was well under the NCAA qualifying standard of 4:16.38. The mark would have been good for a meet record except that NCAA record-holder Maggie Bowen of Auburn touched the wall just ahead of Kejzar in 4:13.60. Kejzar also finished second to Bowen in the 200 I.M., in both the Classic and in a dual meet against Auburn on Nov. 1. Kejzar won the 200 backstroke at both meets.
Fresno State freshman diver Ashleigh Raley and San Jose State junior Charlotte Pierce were also nominated for the award.
