Rice junior Mandy Mularz has been named the Western Athletic Conference athlete of the week for womens swimming and diving.
Mularz, a native of Mobile, Ala. (St. Pauls Episcopal), broke the school record in the 50 free at the Texas Invitational last weekend. Her time of 22.70 also met the NCAA automatic qualifying standard. Mularz posted personal and Rice season-bests in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.66 and the 100 backstroke in 57.00 as well.
Additional nominees included Jessica Klenner, Fresno State; Charlotte Pierce, San Jose State; and Alenka Kejzar, SMU.
