DENVER - Tulsa's Dane McGregor and Aleksandra Durska have been named the Western Athletic Conference men's and women's tennis Players of the Week, respectively, for matches played during Feb. 5-11.
McGregor, a junior from Port Elizabeth, South Africa, was 3-0 at the No. 2 singles position and won his only doubles match at the top position. He began the week with an upset of 21st-ranked Henrik Tofft of Arkansas, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. He then won matches over Harvard's Cliff Nguyen (7-6, 0-6, 7-5) and Neal Bobba of Dartmouth (6-4, 6-4). In doubles, he teamed up with Shri Sudhakara to defeat Harvards Nguyen and Lee, 8-5. McGregor is now 7-0 in dual matches on the season.
Other athletes nominated included SMU sophomore Ryan Mauck and TCU senior Trace Fielding.
Durska, a native of Pobiedziska, Poland, was 3-0 at the No. 2 singles position and 3-0 in doubles at the CU-Harvest House Invitational. In singles, she defeated Colorado's Karoline Graeubig (6-4, 6-3), Amy Thomas of Minnesota (4-6, 6-2, 6-2) and Colorado State's Sanja Hansson (6-4, 6-2). She is now 6-0 in dual matches. In doubles action with Marjolein van Dongen, she beat teams from Colorado (8-5), Minnesota (8-2) and Colorado State (8-6). Tulsa is currently ranked 25th, tying for the Golden Hurricanes highest ever ranking.
Also nominated was SMU senior Dee Dee Herring and TCU freshman Saber Pierce.
