Denver -- Rices Richard Barker has been named the Western Athletic Conference mens tennis Player of the Week for matches played during March 5-11.
Barker, a freshman from Solihull, England, helped Rice fend off No. 60 Virginia Tech and No. 50 San Diego on March 6 and 8, respectively. Posting a 2-0 singles record, Barker, ranked 73rd, was also victorious in doubles action with his twin brother Richard and Cody Jackson.
Rices top player all season, Barker remains undefeated in dual match play with his ninth consecutive victory coming against San Diegos Mattias Tangefjord.
Other athletes nominated include: Peter Luczak, Fresno State; Reginaldo Moralejo, Hawaii; Sean Monk, Tulsa.
