Men's Basketball Player of the Week 03/4/01

March 4, 2001 - UTEP forward Brandon Wolfram has been named the Western Athletic Conference mens basketball player of the week.

Wolfram, a senior from Amarillo, Texas (Amarillo HS), averaged 35.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in a split of two games last week. On Thursday, he scored a career-high 36 points in a loss versus TCU and became the schools all-time leading scorer. He was 12-of-16 from the field, 12-of-13 from the free throw line and added seven rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal. Against Hawaii on Saturday, he finished with 35 points and eight rebounds to lead the Miners to a win and the third seed in this weeks Williams WAC Tournament in Tulsa. For the week, he shot 74 percent (23-31) from the field and 86 percent (25-29) from the free throw line.

Other nominations included: senior guard Demetrius Porter, Fresno State; senior forward Ryan Carroll, TCU; and sophomore guard Antonio Reed, Tulsa.
