DENVER -- SMU's Johan Brunstrom has been named the Western Athletic Conference men's tennis Player of the Week for matches played during Feb. 26-March 4.
Brunstrom, a freshman from Uddevalla, Sweden, led the No. 11 Mustangs to a 3-0 mark after a two-week hiatus. Individually, Brunstrom went 2-0 in singles with wins over opponents from South Alabama and Virginia Commonwealth. Against No. 14 VCU, he teamed with Jon Wallmark to dominate the only doubles match of the week.
Heading into SMU's March 7 match at No. 13 Texas, Brunstrom led the team with an .857 winning percentage, posting a 6-1 record since joining the team in January.
On March 6, Brustrom and Wallmark were named the ITA's National Doubles Team of the Month for February. Last month, the duo went 6-1, climbed to No. 8 in the ITA rankings and captured the doubles title at the Rolex National Indoor Championships. Brunstrom and Wallmark have played to an 8-1 record through March 6.
