All WAC Men's Golf Selections Announced

DENVER - The 2001 WAC Men's Golf Championship individual medallist David Inglis of Tulsa headlined the post-season awards announced by the conference following the conclusion of the championship held in Broken Arrow, Okla.,
April 30-May 2.

The league's head coaches select the all-WAC teams and player, freshman and coach of the year honorees by a vote.

Inglis, a freshman from Roslin, Scotland, won the WAC title with an even-par 216, two strokes ahead of second-team all-WAC Scott Volpitto of TCU. The
victory was Inglis' second in his first season of collegiate competition and his 12th top finish in all 12 tournaments played. Thrice this season he was named WAC Player of the Week.

Tulsa's Bill Brogden and UTEP's Rick Todd shared Coach of the Year honors. Guiding his team into position to win the WAC title, Brogden, in his 15th season at the helm, saw his Hurricane grab the second-round lead but fall by one stroke to TCU in the end. The 40th ranked Hurricane finished in the top seven 10 times this season, including second-place showings at the Cleveland
Intercollegiate, UT-San Antonio Invite and the LSU Spring Invite.

In his second-year as head coach, Todd's No. 73 Miners finished fourth at this year's championships behind 12th-ranked TCU, Tulsa and No. 50 SMU. UTEP captured its first team title since 1997 at the UC Irvine Anteater Invitational in March. Under the direction of Todd, the Miners tallied top-10 finishes at the CSU Invite, the Wolf Pack Golf Classic, the Fresno Lexus Golf Classic, 49er Collegiate Classic and John Burns Intercollegiate.

Player of the Year was garnered by Fresno State sophomore standout Nick Watney who has been the WAC's highest-rated golfer for much of the season.
He finished seventh at the WAC Championship. A consistent member of the top-10 club, Watney shared medallist honors at the Inverness Collegiate in September and followed with a second-place outing at the John Burns
Intercollegiate in February. In March, Watney took top honors at the San Diego Invitational and then tied for fifth at the CG Morris Invite. Ranked as high as fifth by Golfstat during the season, Watney is currently ranked 12th in the nation. In 31 rounds he boasts a 71.16 stroke average.
