Player of the Week
Freshman goalkeeper Abby Fahrig led her team to three victories by posting two shutouts and 12 saves last week for Tulsa, earning her WAC Player of the Week honors. The St. Charles, Mo., native finished the week allowing only one goal in three games while playing every minute in goal for the Golden Hurricane. Fahrig ended up with a 0.33 goals against average for the week. She also received tournament MVP mention for her performance at the 2001 Oklahoma Shootout.

Fahrig has started all seven games for Tulsa, recording three shutouts and 45 saves. She has allowed just eight goals in 635 minutes, leaving her with a 1.13 goals against average for the season.

Others receiving nominations included Hawai`i senior forward Jennifer Starsiak, SMU senior forward Sarah Harvey, and UTEP junior midfielder Holly Cohen.

Tournament Play
Three WAC schools participated in tournaments last week. Boise State fell to Cal Poly, 1-3, and Montana, 2-3, at the Cal Poly Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 21-22, in San Luis Obispo, Calf., while Cal State Northridge defeated Hawai`i, 3-2, in the first game of the Outrigger Hotel Invitational. The two will match up again on Monday, Sept. 24 for the second game of the abbreviated tournament. Tulsa took home two victories and the tournament title in Edmond, Okla., in the Oklahoma Shootout. The Golden Hurricane topped Oklahoma State, 1-0, on Friday, Sept. 21 and Texas Tech, 4-1, on Sunday, Sept. 23.

For tournament action during the upcoming week, San Jose State will play host to Northeastern, Southeast Missouri State and Gonzaga in the adidas Bay Area Classic Sept. 28-30 at Spartan Stadium.

WAC Players Earn All-Tournament Honors
Four Tulsa players earned all-tournament mention last week in Edmond, Okla. Freshmen Abby Fahrig and Holly Lorman, along with sophomores Keely Flynn and Katie Schlecht were chosen to the 2001 AT&T Wireless Oklahoma Shootout All-Tournament Team. Fahrig picked up seven saves and one shutout while playing every minute in goal for the Golden Hurricane, earning her tournament MVP honors. Lorman, a forward from Saskatoon, Canada, received Offensive MVP after posting one goal off of four shots in two games.

The WAC Against Ranked Opponents
Three WAC schools faced nationally ranked opponents last week. Fresno State faced No. 4 Stanford on the road and suffered a 1-0 loss. The Bulldogs have three more ranked opponents on the upcoming schedule in California, Santa Clara and conference foe SMU. Inclimate weather forced Rice to cancel its game against No. 25 Texas in a 0-0 tie after completing only one half of play. SMU suffered its first loss of the season against No. 18 Florida on Friday, Sept. 21. The Mustangs were shut out 3-0 on the road by the Gators. SMU will also face Santa Clara and Stanford during the next week of play.

The WAC in the Polls
SMU is still the only WAC team to make an appearance in the polls. The Mustangs fell from their No.16 SoccerBuzz national ranking to No. 20 this week after suffering their first loss of the season to No. 4 Stanford. SMU also dropped one spot in the regional rankings to No.4.

WAC Womens Soccer Drops One, Adds Two
After the loss of TCU, WAC womens soccer becomes nine-strong with the addition of Rice and Boise State. The 2001 season will serve as Rices first year of varsity competition, while Boise State, who begins its fifth year of play, will join the WAC ranks this season after four years as a member of the Big West. Louisiana Tech is the only WAC member to not sponsor womens soccer.
