Athlete of the WeekFresno State freshman
Ashleigh Raley has been named the Western Athletic Conference athlete of the week for womens swimming and diving.
Raley, a native of Austin, Texas, notched a Fresno State record in the three-meter diving competition in a tri-meet on Jan. 12. Her score of 264.97 was 20.02 points more than her previous best this season. Raley has already qualified for NCAA competition in the one-meter event with a dual-meet tally of 275.60, second-best in the WAC.

Kathy Echiverri won the 50 free at the UC Irvine Invitational last weekend with a time of 24.10. She also took part in six winning relays at the invitational. Then against Houston, Echiverri won the 50 free again and was part of the winning 200 medley relay. To round out the weekend, Echiverri won the 100 fly and was again part of the winning 200 medley relay in a tri-meet against Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine... SMU sophomore
Georgina Lee won the 200 butterfly last Saturday as the Mustangs fell to fourth-ranked Arizona. Though not a seasonal best, Lees time of 2:00.72 met the NCAA provisional qualifying mark. She has won the 200 fly in four out of five attempts.
Wahine NewcomersHawai`i introduced new members to its squad during the semester break. Katia Sarakatsani of Athens, Greece made an immediate impact on the team as she earned the third-fastest time in the 100 breast (1:07.89). She is also listed on the WAC Top 20 in five events: 200 free, 100 breast, 200 breast, 200 I.M. and 400 I.M. Cindy Goudie of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia clocked the teams second-best time in the 50 free at 24.99. Maggie Roberts, also of Australia, finished sixth in the one-meter event at the Rainbow Diving Invitational with a score of 233.20.
Poll PositionSMU moved up to seventh in the poll released on Dec. 13. Rice dropped out of the top 25 after another idle weekend. For many WAC teams, the season goes into full swing after the winter break. The next poll will be released on Jan. 17, followed by Jan. 31, Feb. 14 and Mar. 7.
SplashesHawai`i hosted two non-scoring events on Jan. 4-5 in conjunction with the Rainbow Invitational. The Duke Kahanamoku Sprint meet was held on Jan. 4 followed by the Aileen Soule Classic on Jan. 5. Participating teams included Michigan State, Wisconsin, Illinois State and Michigan... With three victories last weekend, Nevada improved its dual-meet record to 7-1. The Wolf Pack defeated Houston (98-80), Pepperdine (64-30) and Loyola Marymount (64-28). Nevada also finished first at the UC Irvine Individual Meet on Jan. 5 with a score of 356.2 to best the 10-team field... Rice won its first Invitational on Jan. 5, scoring 204 points at the San Diego Invitational. Arkansas came in second followed by Air Force and San Diego...
