Louisiana Techs Cheryl Ford has been named the Western Athletic Conference womens basketball Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 31-Jan. 6.
Ford, a junior from Summerfield, La. (Summerfield HS), earned her first Player of the Week honor after averaging 20.0 points and 10.5 rebounds in WAC wins over UTEP and Boise State. Ford earned the Lady Techsters second player of the week honor this year with senior Ayana Walker earning the honor the first week of the season.
The center shot 73.0 percent (16-22) from the field and 89.0 percent (8-9) from the free throw line in the Lady Techster wins. In two games, Ford scored 40 points in 37 minutes of action, scoring a team-high 18 points against Boise State. The junior recorded her second double-double of the season against UTEP with 22 points and a career-high 14 rebounds.
