ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
MEN - Carlos Arrizon, a senior from Berryville, Ark., took second at the Northwestern State Invitational, helping the Bulldogs to their first major team win of the year. He finished with a time of 25:15.20.

WOMEN- Emily Field, a junior from Dallas, Texas, placed second at the Texas A&M Invite. She took second with a time of 21:19 in the 6k out of 176 runners. She finished just six seconds off the winner from South Plains College.

OTHERS NOMINATED Men - Miles Wiscombe, Boise State ... Women - Robin Wemple, Boise State; Victoria Chang, Hawaii; Kate Gorry, Rice.


NOTES FROM THE COURSE
Bosie State traveled east to the Washington State Invite in Pullman, Wash. ... Miles Wiscombe again led the men, taking fifth with a time of 27:30 ... behind him was teammate Michael Ciampini who grabbed ninth (27:42) ... on the womens side, Robyn Wemple and Kayla Christensen finished 1-2 for the Broncos for the fourth-straight week ... Wemple took second with a time of 19:20, while Christensen was fifth (19:49).

Hawaii ran a split squad this past weekend ... at the Triton Classic in San Diego, Victoria Chang picked up her first meet win and her fifth top-10 performance crossing at 21:46.7 ... teammate Hanna Bremler finished second (22:10.8) ... at the Hawaii Pacific Invitational, Kira Lee led the way for the Wahine, taking 13th (25:34).

Nevada finished fourth at the Triton Classic in San Diego behind another top team finish from Emma Garrard ... Garrard finished fifth with a time of 22:27.9 ... Jenna Huber finished 11th (22:45.0)

The Rice women competed in the Texas A&M Invitational taking second in a field of 21 teams ... Kate Gorry led the way for the Owls as she finished 13th with a time of 22:39 ... Katie Waite finished 18th, 10 seconds behind Gorry.

SMU stayed in state and traveled to College Station for the Texas A&M Invite ... the only two Mustang men to compete, Brandon Reimer and Kelly Harris, finished 59th and 138th, respectively, with times of 28:52 and 31:22 ... of the three lady Mustangs to compete, Emily Field was second with a time of 21:19, while Marie Norman was 49th (23:43).

WAC CHAMPIONSHIP TO BE HELD IN DALLAS Dallas, Texas and SMU will play host to the 2002 WAC Championships. The event will take place on Saturday, November 2. The Rice men and Tulsa women will both look to defend their titles from the 2001 Championship held in Hawaii.
