GOLFER OF THE MONTH Dan Swanson, a senior from Surrey, British Columbia became just the 12th player in UTEP history to earn top honors, when he took first at the Falcon-Antigua Invitational. He started off the month of September with a third-place two-under par performance at the Tucker Intercollegiate. The Miners won their next event, the Falcon-Antigua Classic behind the play of Swanson. His 210 (-6) placed him first ahead of teammate Chris Baryla (-5). In his final event of the month, Swanson helpd UTEP to a third-place spot with his third top-10 landing of the month, tying for eighth (+1).

OTHERS NOMINATED Halli Heimisson of Lousiana Tech placed in the top 20 in all three of his events this month ... Heimisson placed fourth at the Gulf Coast Collegiate Classic, shooting a career-best round of 68 ... Nevadas Sprague Kolp finished third at the Rocky Mountain Invitational in Denver, carding a three-round total of 214 (-2) ... Kolps +1 performace at the Pacific Invitational was good for a 32nd-place tie ... Brock Mulder of SMU capped off the month with an eighth-place finish at the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate ... Tulsas Billy Lowry had one top-20 finish, taking 16th at the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate ... Mike DeBoard of Boise State finishing as the top Bornco in each of their events this month ... He had three par or better rounds ... Nick Watney of Fresno State proved why he ranked third in the country by winning the Inverness Invitational in Toledo and taking second at the Topy Cup in Japan ... he owns a 69.67 stroke average, best in the WAC.

WAC TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD IN HOUSTON The 2002 WAC Tournament will hosted by Rice in Houston, April 28-30. Tulsa won the 2002 crown by five strokes over UTEP. Tulsa Sophomore David Inglis took home the individual crown by 10 strokes over SMUs Ryan Abbate.

SMUS ABBATE NAMED TO THE 2002 CLEVELAND GOLF SCHOLAR Ryan Abbate, an SMU senior, earned 2002 Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status. He was an addition to the team, along with seven other Division I golfers.
To earn Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status, student-athletes must play in at least 70 percent of their team's competitive rounds, maintain minimum grade-point and scoring averages. The honors were originally presented in May, however student-athletes that reached the required criteria during the final part of the spring semester/season remained eligible for honor and their new information was reviewed by the committee during the offseason.

GOLFER OF THE MONTH Alana Condon, a junior from Renton, Wash., finished second at the Lady Vandal Fall Invitational, helping the Wolf Pack to a first-place finish. Condon shot a 228 (+12), to tie for second place. Earlier in the month, the Kentridge HS graduate tied for 13th with a seven-over-par effort, with a low round of 74.

OTHERS NOMINATED Erin Simmons of SMU was the Mustangs top finisher at the Lady Eagle Invite when she tied for 11th, with a 225 ... San Jose States Carling Cho earned a 10th-place finish at the Shanic Invitational in Corvallis, Ore., carding rounds of 75-72-76 (223) ... Alissa Lean of Boise State has been the top finisher in three of the Broncos four events this month ... her 78.2 stroke average is nearly seven strokes better than her career average ... Suzie Fisher of Tulsa placed 43rd out of 90 participants at the NCAA Fall Preview with rounds of 79-75-78 ... she also grabbed 18th at the Dick McGuire Invite with a seven-over-par effort.

WAC TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD IN HONOLULU The 2002 WAC Tournament will hosted by Honolulu in Hawaii, April 21-23. Tulsa won the 02 crown by 25 strokes over San Jose State. Tulsa senior Stacy Prammanasudh took home the individual crown by 11strokes over fellow Hurricanes Maiko Senda and Dani Mallon.
