ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Alana Lella, a sophomore from Modesto, Calif., won two individual events and was a member of the first-place 200-free relay team. She won the 100 backstroke with a season-best time of 59.23. Lella also won the 200 backstroke with another season-best time of 2:10.90. Her winning 200 free relay team crossed at 1:40.73.

OTHERS NOMINATED Alyssa Chin of Nevada won three individual titles and swam on the second-place 200-yard medley relay team. She won the 100 yard and 200 yard freestyle in 52.32 and 1:52.48, respectively. Posted a time of 2:07.64 in the 200-yard I.M.,taking first.


TEAM NOTES
FRESNO STATE - The Bulldogs are coming off a tie to Cal Baptist, 57-57. The next event for Fresno State is a dual against Northern Arizona and New Mexico State.

HAWAII - The Wahine are coming off a meet at the Big West Shootout, where they went 1-3. The next dual for Hawaii is scheduled for November 15-16, where they compete with UC Santa Barbara.

NEVADA - The Wolf Pack have only more meet before this year. Nevada is in a dual with San Diego and Pepperdine this weekend. The next competition for the Wolf Pack is Jan. 4.

RICE - The Owls defeated their in-city rivals Houston, 162-112. The Owls now head west to face conference foe San Jose State on Nov. 16, then square off with California the following day.

SAN JOSE STATE - The Spartans are coming off a split last week. San Jose State lost to Utah, 133-108, but defeated UC Santa Cruz, 155-121. The Spartans will host California and Oregon State, Nov. 15, then conference rival Rice on Nov. 16.

SMU - SMUs last competition was at the Texas A&M, where they defeated No. 23 Texas A&M, 194-106. The Mustangs last competition of the calendar year is coming at the World Cup, Nov. 22. The next dual for the No. 6 Mustangs is against Georgia, Jan. 18.

WAC CHAMPIONSHIP TO BE HELD IN SAN ANTONIO The 2002 WAC Tournament will in San Antonio, Texas at the Palo Alto College Natatorium, February 26-March 1. SMU won the 2003 crown, landing its sixth title in as many years.
