DENVER Tulsas Alicia Pillay has been named Octobers Western Athletic Conference womens tennis player of the month.
Pillay, a senior from Pietermaritzbyrg, South Africa, won the 2002 Omni Hotels Central Region Singles Championship. Pillay was the tournaments top seeded singles player, defeating three ranked players. Pillay is now 13-1 for the fall season with her only loss coming to 15th ranked Mira Radu of Mississippi.
OTHERS NOMINATED Boise States Jemima Hayward made it to the quarterfinals at the regionals Fresno States Katherin Winterhalter reached the semifinals of the St. Marys Tournament Louisiana Techs Lauren Longbothom went 4-0 capturing the flight four singles title at the Collin County Invitational Lauren Archer of Rice went 6-2 in singles during October, advancing to the quarterfinals of the ITA Southwest Regionals UTEPs Kendall Exelby went 5-2 for the month, capturing her third straight backdraw title at the New Mexico State Invitational.
