GOLFER OF THE MONTH Nick Watney, a senior from Dixon, Calif., picked up two more individual titles, bringing his fall total to four. Watney won the Fresno State/Lexus Classic and the AlisterMackenzie Invite this month. The two-time GCAA All-American was also ninth at the Aztec Intercollegiate, finishing the fall season with a 69.07 scoring average. He shot a low round of 65 at the Lexus Classic (10/11), matching his low of 65 he shot at the Topy Cup in early September.
OTHERS NOMINATED Graham DeLaet of Boise State won two of three tournaments in October earning a stroke average of 70.20, shooting par or better in eight of nine rounds ... Ian Hagen of Nevada was under par at two events in October, finishing tied for seventh with a 212 (-4) at the Wolf Pack Classic and tied for 17th at the Barona Collegitate Cup, 214, -2 ... Ryan Morgan of Rice led the Owls at the Colbert Intercollegitate and Henry Griffiths/Baylor Invite ... Brock Mulder of SMU captured two tournament crowns leading the Mustangs to a tie for first at the Colbert Invitational and taking first at the Baylor Invitational ... Chris Baryla of UTEP posted a 71.60 stroke average in October, finishing in the top 10, twice ... David Inglis of Tulsa carded a five-under 208 to finish sixth at the Purina Classic.
FRESNO STATES WATNEY, TOPS IN THE COUNTRY Nick Watney, an senior from Dixon, Calif., has caprutred four individual titles this fall. Watney is ranked first in the nation by the GolfWeek/Sagarin Perfomance Index and second by the Gofstat Cups Standings. He currently owns a 69.07 scoring average, best in the WAC. Watney earned top honors at the Topy Cup, INverness Intercollegiate, Fresno State/Lexus Classic and the Alister Mackenzie Invitational
WAC TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD IN HOUSTON The 2002 WAC Tournament will hosted by Rice in Houston, April 28-30. Tulsa won the 2002 crown by five strokes over UTEP. Tulsa Sophomore David Inglis took home the individual crown by 10 strokes over SMUs Ryan Abbate.
