DENVER Rices Richard Barker has been named Octobers Western Athletic Conference mens tennis player of the month.

Barker, a junior from Solihul, England, was an ITA Region VI finalist in both the singles and doubles, winning the doubles with partner William Barker. He went a combined 10-1 at regionals, with his only loss coming to teammate Robert Searle as result of an injury default. He also upset the No. 2 and 3 seeds on the way to the finals. Barker advanced to the semifinals at the ITA All-American main doubles draw before getting edged by top-seeded Lipsky and Mastin (Stanford), 9-8.

OTHERS NOMINATED Boise States Guillaume Bouvier made it to the quarterfinals at regionals Fresno States Stefan Suta went 12-1 during October, repeating as champion at the Wathen/Hancock Bulldog Classic, defeating teammate Hector Almada in the finals ... Tulsas Alejandro Tejerina won the 2002 OMNI Hotels Region V Singles.
