The Rice Owls earn their third straight win knocking off Hawaii, 2-0. The Owls, who won their last two regular season games to get into the tournament, relied on two goals from sophomore Caitlin Curry.
The Owls now have their longest winning streak in team history after toppling the Rainbow Wahine for their third-straight victory and second consecutive shutout.
Both teams played to a scoreless draw after one half of play.
Currie put the Owls ahead 1-0 in the 65th minute with a shot from 12 yards out for the first goal of her career. After Kristen Lindsay's corner kick was knocked down in the penalty box, Currie stepped in and ripped a shot past Wahine keeper Mahie Atay, giving Rice the advantage with only 25 minutes remaining.
Hawaii kept the game in the balance, but 16 minutes after her first goal, Currie added her second goal of the game in a nearly identical situation. Again, after a Lindsay corner kick that was played into the box, Currie fired a shot that was deflected over the defense and into the net to put the Owls ahead 2-0.
The Wahine never posed a serious threat from there on, and Rice now finds itself in the semifinal game of the WAC Championship for the second year in a row.
Rice faces off with UTEP at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the second game of the semifinals. Fresno State, who defeated Tulsa, 4-0, will face SMU at 5:00. The winners will square off in the championship match, Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
