DENVER Nevada guard Kirk Snyder has been named the Western Athletic Conference men's basketball player of the week for December 16-22.
Snyder, a sophomore from Upland, Calif. (Upland HS), averaged 21.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in a pair of wins last week. Against Seattle Pacific, he shot a season-best 67 percent (8-of-12) from the field in scoring 19 points. He followed that up with a career-high 24 points and pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds in a win over Portland on Saturday. For the week, he shot .640 (16-25) from the field and also added three steals and two blocks.
It was Snyders first ever WAC player of the week award and first for a Nevada player this season.
The other nominations were sophomore forward Jason Ellis, Boise State; senior guard Damon Jackson, Fresno State; junior guard/forward Carl English, Hawaii; senior forward Antonio Meeking, Louisiana Tech; senior guard Omar-Seli Mance, Rice; sophomore guard/forward Justin Isham, SMU; and sophomore guard Jarius Glenn, Tulsa.
