DENVER Rice outfielder Mike Lorsbach and Nevada right-handed pitcher Darrell Rasner have been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for Feb. 4-10.
Lorsbach, a senior from Omaha, Neb. (Oklahoma State), hit .417 (5-12) in three games as the Owls went 2-1 in the Astros College Classic. Against Baylor, he was 3-for-5 with a double and three runs in a 10-9 12-inning victory. In a 17-4 win versus Texas Tech on Saturday, Lorsbach was 2-for-4 with two runs, six RBI, a double and his first career grand slam.
Rasner, a junior from Carson City, Nevada (Carson HS), pitched seven shutout innings and struck out 10 in a 10-4 victory at UNLV on Friday. Rasner allowed just four hits and walked one. He left the game with a 10-0 lead.
Other player of the week nominations included: senior right fielder Tobey Riday-White, Fresno State; senior designated hitter/outfielder Scooter Martines, Hawaii; junior infielder Kyle Humphreys, Louisiana Tech; and junior catcher Craig Markel, Nevada.
Additional pitcher of the week nominations included: senior Ben Fritz, Fresno State; junior Bryan Lee, Hawaii; junior Adam Kirkendall, Louisiana Tech; senior Justin Crowder, Rice; and senior Jahseam George, San Jose State.
