DENVER Boises Marcus Berntson has been named the Western Athletic Conference mens tennis player of the week.
Berntson, a junior from Alingas, Sweden, dropped only one game while playing in the No. 1 spot for the Broncos. He beat Clemsons Marko Gojanovic 7-5,6-2 and defeated Minnesotas Aleksey Zharunov 6-3, 1-6, 7-6, 7-6. He also teamed up with fellow Bronco Roberts to win both of his doubles matches as well.
Berntsons next match is scheduled for Feb. 15, against Utah, Montana St. and Portland.
Other mens nominations; Matthias Mathaes of Rice, defeated Jacek Wolicki of Nebraska, 1-6, 6-1, 6-2, then defeated Iowas Jake Wilson 6-4, 6-2. He also won his doubles match, upping his season record to 8-2.
