Conference Championships
The WAC Championship is next event for all six conference teams. It will take place Feb. 27-March 2 at the Palo Alto Community College Natatorium in San Antonio, Texas. No qualifying standards are used to determine participation in the meet, and the WAC follows NCAA guidelines concerning the number of events each swimmer may enter. Swimmers are seeded based upon their top times from the regular season.

SMU to Host Diving Championships
United States Diving and SMU announced that the 2002 U.S. National Diving Championships will take place July 22-27 in Dallas. This marks the third time since 1990 that SMU has hosted Nationals. Competition for men and women will consist of 1-meter and 3-meter springboard, 10-meter platform and synchronized 3-meter and platform. The top four finishers in 1-meter, the top six finishers in 3-meter and platform, and the top synchronized team in each event will be named to the 2002 National Team.

Poll Position
SMU moved up one spot, from ninth to eighth, in the poll released on Jan. 30. No other WAC teams have appeared in the rankings since Rice dropped out of the poll before the winter break. The next poll will be released on Feb. 19, followed by a final poll on Mar. 7.

SMU Top 5
The Mustangs place at least three athletes in the top five for best WAC times this season in seven of the 14 swimming events. They have four swimmers in the top five in four events and hold all five spots in the 200 Freestyle.

Splashes
SMUs Lisa Wanberg placed fourth this weekend against Texas and became only the third WAC swimmer to break 1:50 this season in the 200 freestyle. Mustang Georgina Lee swam a time of 4:46.54 in the 500 free vs.Texas last week, giving her a provisional qualifing time. In a meet vs. San Jose St., Fresno St.s Carolyn Wigginton just missed qualifing by .15 in the 100 back, becoming the only non-Mustang to break 57 seconds.
