Rice Sweeps This Week's Tennis Athlete of the Week Honors. (Feb. 18)

Rice's William Barker and Annie Goodrich are named Western Athletic Conference tennis athletes of the week for Feb. 18.

William Barker, a sophomore from Solihull, England, defeated 68th ranked Steven Capriati of Arizona from the No. 1 position, to help Rice to a 5-2. He also paired up with teammate Fabien Giraud to go 2-0 from the No. 2 doubles slot. The two defeated Wildcats Whi Kim and Tom Lloyd, who are ranked 60th in doubles. They are now 4-0 on the season

Barkers next match is scheduled for Feb. 20, against Texas A&M.

Other mens nominations; Chad Stoloff, a senior from Nevada posted a 1-2 record from the No. 1 position at the UNLV Spring Invitational. He defeated Hestian Stoica of Idaho State 6-2, 6-4. Boise States Guillaume Bouvier helped the Broncos beat Utah, winning that match 6-3, 7-5, over Corrie Scheepers from the No. 2 spot and defeated Idahos Eddie Brisbois 7-6, 6-1 from the No. 1 position. He also went 2-0 with teammate Imraan Ismail from the No. 2 doubles spot.

Annie Goodrich, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo., played in both the No. 3 and No.4 ladder position for the Owls, winning all three of her singles matches. She had one of Rices two singles wins against Arkansas. Goodrich also paired up with teammate Natalie Briaud to go 2-1 on the weekend.

Goodrichs next match is scheduled for Feb., 21, against Missouri.

Other womens nominations; Anabella Duque of Louisiana Tech, won both of here singles matches to up her season mark to 4-1 from the No. 3 position. She also notched a doubles win with teammate Saharai Uriate against Harding.
