DENVER Tulsa forward Kevin Johnson has been named the Western Athletic Conference mens basketball player of the week for Feb. 11-17.
Johnson, a junior from Missouri City, Texas (HCYA), averaged 17.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 blocks in a pair of victories over SMU and Louisiana Tech last week. Johnson shot .824 (14-17) from the field in the two games and played just 26.0 minutes per contest. Against SMU on Thursday, he had 16 points, five rebounds and four blocked shots. He followed that up with 19 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks against Louisiana Tech.
The other nominations were sophomore guard Booker Nabors, Boise State; sophomore guard Carl English, Hawaii; senior guard Gerrod Henderson, Louisiana Tech; sophomore guard Garry Hill-Thomas, Nevada; junior forward Omar-Seli Mance, Rice; and junior guard/forward Quinton Ross, SMU.
