DENVER Hawaii third baseman Brent Cook and Rice right-handed pitcher Philip Tribe have been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for Feb. 11-17.

Cook, a junior from Alamo, Calif. (California), was 12-for-14 (.857) from the plate in a three-game sweep of UCLA. He was 5-for-5 in the first game, 4-for-5 in the second and 3-for-4 in the third contest. Cook also scored three runs, drove in three and had a double. One of his runs was the game-winner in Saturdays 11-inning victory.

Tribe, a senior from Katy, Texas (Galveston College), picked up a win and a save in two relief appearances last week. Tribe got a save against Houston on Tuesday by pitching the final three innings of a 4-0 win and didnt allow a hit. He picked up the win over eighth-ranked Nebraska on Saturday by not allowing an earned run in the final 2.1 innings. In the two games combined, he struck out five, gave up two hits and one unearned run.

Other player of the week nominations included: senior outfielder Cullen Simmons, Louisiana Tech; senior outfielder Jeff Tolotti, Nevada; junior outfielder/designated hitter Dane Bubela, Rice; and senior catcher Adam Shorsher, San Jose State.

Additional pitcher of the week nominations included: junior Bryan Lee, Hawaii; senior Lee Gwaltney, Louisiana Tech; junior Justin Sherman, Nevada; and senior Jahseam George, San Jose State.
