SMUs Lynsie Jones has been named the Western Athletic Conference womens tennis player of the week.
Jones, a Fresno State transfer, recorded a perfect week finishing 4-0. She dominated vs. Montana State winning 6-1,6-0 helping her team to a 6-0 win. In the nightcap of a two-city doubleheader, she managed one of only two wins for the Mustangs, defeating her opponent 6-3, 6-4 against No. 21 Baylor. In another doubleheader, she managed two more, straight-set wins. She won 6-0, 6-4 vs. UTSA and 6-0, 6-1 against Texas A&M-CC, helping her team to 5-2 and 5-1 wins, respectively.
Jones next match is scheduled for March, 1 in Las Cruces, N.M. vs. New Mexico State.
Other womens nominations; Karen Chao of Rice went 3-0 on the week. She posted the Owls only singles win vs. TCU coming back to win, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3. She also paired up with teammate Natalie Briaud to go 2-1. Tea Spirta had a pair of wins for UTEP, helping the Miners to a four-game winning streak. La. Techs Annabella Duque improved to 5-1 on the season winning her singles match vs. New Orleans.
