DENVER Rice outfielder/designated hitter Chris Kolkhorst and San Jose State right-handed pitcher Jeremy Rogelstad have been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for Feb. 18-24.
Kolkhorst, a sophomore from Houston (Cypress Falls HS/Blinn College), hit .529 (9-17) as fifth-ranked Rice won all four of its games last week. Kolkhorst began the week going 4-for-5 against Lamar with two runs scored. In the Coca-Cola Classic, he was 3-for-5 against Louisiana-Lafayette and scored three runs against Texas-Arlington in yesterdays 8-4 comeback win. For the week, he scored seven runs, drove in two, was walked three times and hit two doubles.
Rogelstad, a senior from Benicia, Calif. (Benicia HS), improved to 3-1 on the season by pitching a complete game in a 5-2 victory against Cal Poly SLO on Friday. He struck out a season-high nine batters and allowed six hits, two runs and two walks in the game.
