Louisiana Tech's Walker Chosen For WBCA All-Star Challenge

RUSTON - Louisiana Tech senior forward Ayana Walker will compete against the world's best players after being selected as one of 17 top Division I seniors in the nation to compete in the 2002 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-Star Challenge to be held March 30 in San Antonio, Texas.

Walker is the leading candidate for Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year as the Houston, Texas, native is averaging 13.6 points and 9.3 rebounds a contest this season for the 20-4 Lady Techsters.

The former Westbury High School prep star also leads the WAC with 12 double doubles and currently ranks among the league leaders in scoring, rebounding, free throw percentage, blocks, offensive rebounds and defensive rebounds.

The game to be played in conjunction with the 2002 NCAA Women's Final Four will be held at the University of Texas at San Antonio Convocation Center at 2 p.m. The senior all-stars will match up against the 2002 USA Basketball National Team, featuring Chamique Holdsclaw, Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie and Dawn Staley.
