DENVER Louisiana Tech shortstop Wade Robinson and San Jose State right-handed pitcher Jeremy Rogelstad have been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for Jan. 28-Feb. 3.
Robinson, a junior from Bastrop, La. (Bastrop HS), hit .429 (6-14) in three games as Louisiana Tech swept Mississippi Valley State. In the first game, he had a two-run single to break a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning and put the Bulldogs up for good. In game two, Robinson had a career-high six runs batted in and also hit his first career home run. For the week, he scored five runs, had nine RBI and hit two doubles to go along with his home run.
Rogelstad, a senior from Benicia, Calif. (Benicia HS), pitched eight shutout innings in the Spartans season opening 9-1 victory against Saint Marys. He gave up four hits, one walk and struck out three while not allowing more than one base runner in any inning.
Other player of the week nominations included: senior right fielder Tobey Riday-White, Fresno State; senior outfielder Josh Laidlaw, Nevada; and senior center fielder Dino Quintero, San Jose State.
Additional pitcher of the week nominations included: senior Lee Gwaltney, Louisiana Tech; and junior Justin Sherman, Nevada.
