SMUs Krystian Pfeiffer and Fresno States Chloe Carlotti have been named the Western Athletic Conference mens and womens tennis players of the week, respectively.
Pfeiffer, a senior from Boleslawiec, Poland, clinched a road victory for the Mustangs over archrival TCU when he defeated Fabrizio Sestini, 7-6, 2-6, 7-6. Sestini had two match points at 15-40 on Pfeiffers serve in the 12th game of the third set, but Pfeiffer came back to hold and then won the tiebreaker at 7-5. Following that performance, Pfeiffer defeated the nations third-ranked singles player, Baylors Benjamin Becker, in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6.
Carlotti, a freshman from Paris, France, collected wins in her first two collegiate matches as the Buldogs beat No. 23 Pepperdine, 4-3. At the number two position, Carlotti defeated Charlotte Vernaz, 6-2, 6-3. She then teamed with Lucia Tallo to post a win over Ceyda Keyman and Vernaz, 9-8, at the number two doubles position.
Fresno States Stefan Suta and Tulsas Shri Sudhakara were also nominated for the men. Additional nominees for the women included: Jemima Hayward, Boise State; Anabella Duque, Louisiana Tech; Jeri Gonzales, Rice; Kit Carson, SMU; and Aleksandra Durska, Tulsa.
