DENVER Rice first baseman Vincent Sinisi and Fresno State right-handed pitcher Ben Fritz have been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for March 4-10.

Sinisi, a freshman from The Woodlands, Texas (The Woodlands HS/Texas), hit .600 (9-15), scored seven runs and drove in six runs in four games. He began the week with a 0-for-3 day against Sam Houston State, but was 9-for-12 in a three-game sweep at Hawaii. In the first game versus the Rainbows, he was 3-for-4 with a pair of two-run home runs. The next day, he was 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI singles, and then finished the series with a 3-for-3 performance that included three runs and a double. Sinisi is now leading the Owls with a .407 batting average.

Fritz, a junior from San Jose, Calif. (Oak Grove HS), picked up a complete game 5-2 victory against San Jose State on Sunday. Fritz gave up just four hits, one walk and struck out six to record his third complete game of the year.

Other player of the week nominations included: first baseman Gregg Omori, Hawaii; senior outfielder Cullen Simmons, Louisiana Tech; and junior DH/catcher Tony Cappuccilli, Nevada.
