Fresno States Nick Watney has been selected as the Western Athletic Conference mens golfer of the week.
Watney, a junior from Dixon, Calif., played in two tournaments this week. At the first stop, he earned his fourth, second-place finish of the season in the Cleveland Golf Classic at USC. At the event, he shot rounds of 72, 70 and 69, helping the Bulldogs to their third, top-five finish. They would capture another one at the Bite Pacific Coast Invitational. Fresno State took fourth, with another top-ten performance from Watney. Even with the flu, he managed an eighth-place 219 to lead the Bulldogs.
Watneys next tournament is scheduled for March 25, where he will compete in the Morris Williams Intercollegiate.
Others Nominated: Ian Hagen from Nevada tied for 14th at the Bite Pacific Coast Invitational. Louisiana Techs Chris Barker tied for 16th at the Moe OBrien Intercollegiate.
