UTEPs Joanna Furdyna has been named the Western Athletic Conference womens tennis player of the week.
Furdyna, a freshman from Wroclaw, Poland, survived four match points at the No.2 position to help UTEP to a 4-3 win over No. 64 Houston. She fought off four match points in the third set to send the match into a tie breaker, where Furdyna pulled out the win 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6). The win gave the Miners eight wins at home, the first time in program history.
Furdynas next match is scheduled for March 24 at the UC Irvine Invitational.
Other Nominations; Zvjezdana Malesevic, went 4-0 and Jemimia Hayward went 3-1 for Boise State against Weber State and Montana. Aleksandra Durska led Tulsa to a 6-1 win over Central Florida. Anabella Duque of Louisiana Tech swept her opponent 6-0, 6-0 improving her record to 9-2. Rices Judoth Hagerdorn was one of only three Owls to post a singles victory during the course of the week.
