Tulsas Dane McGregor has been named the Western Athletic Conference mens tennis player of the week.
McGregor, a senior from Port Elizabeth, South Africa, led the Golden Hurricane to a 2-1 record at the Blue-Gray Classic in Montgomery, Ala. He posted a 2-0 record in singles play and 2-1 in doubles. McGregor earned a 6-2, 6-3, win over Rices Prakash Venkataraman from the second position, and earned an 8-4 doubles win with teammate Shri Sudhakara. Against North Carolina, he gathered his second win with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Trystan Meniane. In his doubles match with Sudhakara, they beat UNCs 41st-ranked Boyd and Monroe, 8-4. He is the first athlete this season to win the award twice.
McGregors next match will be against Texas A&M, March 22.
Others Nominated: Nevadas Rudolf Leuschner won his only singles match and both doubles matches against Utah State and Idaho State. William Baker went 2-0 in singles on the week from the No. 2 spot. He also teamed with Fabien Giraud winning one of two matches, upping their season mark to 11-1.
