Louisiana Classics
Oakbourne Country Club in Lafayette, La., played host to the 17th Annual Louisiana Classics, and three WAC members. SMU won its second tournament of the 2001-02 year, and finished in the top two for second time in as many weeks. The Mustangs shot an even-par 864, to finish nine strokes better than second place Tulsa and Baylor. Their second-round 282, was the lowest team total in the event. Leading the way for SMU was Jerome Theunis who took first, landing one stoke ahead of Baylors Ryan Baca, for a three-under, 213. He birdied the final two holes of the Classic, earning himself his first collegiate title. Brock Mulder, Nicholas Loar and Franklin Hatchett finished eighth, 11th and 15th, respectively, landing four of the Mustangs five members in the top 20. Tulsa landed their third, top-two finish in as many weeks, shooting a three-round 873. The Hurricane have taken first, second, second in those three weeks, doing so for the first time since 1998. Their second-round 285 was the second-lowest team round of the tournament. Leading the way for the Hurricane was player of the week Chris Noel and Neil Trimm, who tied for fifth, with a two-over, 218. Rice was the third WAC member in the 15-team field, taking 15th, with a three-round, 925. The Owls were led by true freshman Matt Toohey, who tied for 61st, shooting a 229 (+13).

Methodist Sportscare/Bob Brown Classic
Louisiana Tech competed in the Methodist Sportscare/Bob Brown Classic, held at the Eastover Country Club in New Orleans. The Bulldogs grabbed their highest finish of the season, taking third, with a two-round, 607. Chris Barker, led the way, shooting a 151, tying for 12th place. Halli Heimisson, Sean Knox and Jay Caserta all tied for 19th, just one stroke back of Barker.

San Diego Invitational
Rice landed their first top-five finish of the spring season, at the San Diego Invitational, in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. The Owls shot a three-round 913, to tie with Western Kentucky for fourth. Math Toohey led the way for the second straight week for the Owls, finishing tied for eighth, with a 225 (+9). Ryan Morgan earned his third top-20 finish of the season, tying for 14th with a 228.
