Hawai`is Lauren Fitzgerald has been named the Western Athletic Conference womens tennis player of the week.
Fitzgerald, a freshman from Santa Maria, Calif., has won four of five matches in singles play. Two of the victories came from the No. 2 spot of Murray State and Clemson, while in the No.1 spot, she defeated Iowa State and Oklahoma. Her only loss came to No. 34 Washington State from the No. 1 position.
Fitzgeralds next match is scheduled for April 12 against Nevada.
Other Nominations; SMUs Jenny Langer went 2-0 in a sweep of Houston and Rice. Yasmin Fisher of Rice went 2-0, twice recovering from first-set losses. UTEPs Callie Dand won 6-1, 6-0 against UC Irvine in her singles match and won 8-1 in her doubles, with teammate Elisa Bjorklund to move to 9-2 on the season. Vania Apodaca won both of her singles matches at the No. 2 spot. Boise States Renate Stoop went 2-0 in her singles matches, as well as 2-0 from her doubles.
