DENVER Nevada shortstop Matt Maguire and Hawaii right-handed pitcher William Quaglieri have been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for Feb. 25-March 3.

Maguire, a senior from Mountian View, Calif. (St. Francis HS), hit .538 (7-13) and drove in eight runs as Nevada swept its three games against Santa Clara last week. He had multiple hits and RBIs in all three games. On Saturday, he hit an inside-the-park grand slam in the eighth inning to tie the score, 10-10, and to help send the game into extra innings where the Wolf Pack won 12-10 in the 12th.

Quaglieri, a sophomore from Reno, Nev. (Purdue), came into Sundays 12-inning game in relief against UC-Irvine and pitched 6.2 innings to earn the win. Quaglieri entered the game in the sixth inning and gave up no runs, two hits and struck out seven. Six of his strikeouts came between the ninth and 12th innings.

Other player of the week nominations included: second baseman Lane Nogawa, Hawaii; freshman first baseman Vincent Sinisi, Rice; and senior second baseman Gabe Lopez, San Jose State.

Additional pitcher of the week nominations included: junior Darrell Rasner, Nevada; senior Justin Crowder, Rice; and sophomore Mike Malott, San Jose State.
