UTEPs Chris Baryla has been selected as the Western Athletic Conference mens golfer of the week.
Baryla, a sophomore from Vernon, British Columbia, won the Herb Wimberly Tournament held at the University Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M. He shot a three-round total of 212, carding rounds of 66, 75 and 71, respectively. Baryla helped the Miners to a fourth-place finish, their highest since October when they also took fourth. His opening-round 66 was a career best, helping him to become only the 11th player in UTEP history to win a tournament. It was also his fourth top-10 performance.
Barylas next tournament is schedule for March 2, in Irvine, Calif. at the Anteater Invitational.
Other Nominated: Fresno States Nick Watney, who took second for the third straight week, shot a 211 at the Taylor Made Invitational. He helped his team to a second-straight third-place finish. Tulsas David Inglis took sixth overall, with a three-under 69,at the rain-shortened LSU Spring Invitational.
