Rices Matthias Mathaes has been named the Western Athletic Conference mens tennis player of the week.
Mathaes, a junior from Ditzingen, Germany, won both of his singles matches this weekend. He defeated N.C. States Michael Carducci from the two spot, helping the Owls to a 6-1 win. Also in the match, he paired up with teammate Cody Jackson to beat the Wolf Pack duo of Lucas and Valor. In his second match of the weekend he defeated North Carolinas Nicholas Monroe from the third position, earning one of Rices two victories, in the Owls 5-2 loss.
Mathaes next match is scheduled for March 5, vs. ECU and Elon College.
