UTEPs Aaron Egbele has been named the Western Athletic Conference mens track and field athlete of the week.
Egbele, a senior from Irving, Texas, ran an NCAA-automatic-qualifying time of 10.11 in the 100m in just his first outdoor event this spring at the UTEP Springtime Invitational. The time is currently the fastest in the NCAAs and the third fastest in school history. Egbele also anchored the 400-meter relay team, which finished first, as well as running the third leg in the 4x400 meter relay, who placed third.
Egbeles next event is at the Texas Relays, April 4-6.
Others Nominated: SMUs Dalibor Balgac won the 5,000m at the Stanford Invitational in 13:40.46. The time is almost six seconds below the NCAA automatic qualifying time and is a new school record, and Croatian National record. Fresno States Duran Archie won the triple jump with a distance of 50-10 and took sixth in the long jump, clearing 23-7 .
