Ryan Morgan of Rice led the Owls, tying for 33rd at the Border Olympics, giving them a 16th-place finish. SMUs Jerome Theunis grabbed third place at the Billy Hitchcock Intercollegiate, helping the Mustangs to a third-place finish. There were no womens nominations.

Tournament Recaps (Men)
Fidelity National Title Championship Cal Poly

Boise State competed in the Cal Poly Invitational at Cypress Ridge Country Club, in Arroyo Grande, Calif. The Broncos took third place in the six-team field. They were led by Graham DeLaet, who took second, scoring a 211. Taking 12th was teammate Luke Sestero who shot a 223. The scores gave DeLaet and Sestero average rounds scores of 74.4 and 74.3, respectively.

56th Western Intecollegiate
Five WAC teams competed in the 17-team 56th Western Intercollegiate, held at the Pasatiempo Golf Course in Santa Cruz, Calif. Fresno State led the way, taking second behind Washington, who boke the old course record held by the Bulldogs. Washingtons team total of 834, is four strokes better than the 838, produced by the 2000 Fresno State team. This time around, the Bulldogs shot an 854. Nick Watney led the way for the Bulldogs, taking fifth, carding a 69-72-69 (210). Just behind him was teammate Dustin Smith who shot a 74-69-68 (211) tying for sixth place. The sixth-place finish is his first top-10 this season. Coming in third was host, San Jose State who shot an 856. Isaac Weintraub led the Spartans, finishing tied for sixth with a 211. Teammate Steve Bendt tied for 14th, shooting a 213. Taking the seventh spot was UTEP, shooting an 868. For the Miners, Nathan Fritz grabbed his first top-10 finish, tying for sixth with a 211. Drew Hawley had his highest finish of the season, tying for 25th, shooting a 219. Nevada finished 12th, with a three-round total of 885. Senior Cullen Brasfield was the highest Wolf Pack finisher, taking 24th, with a two-over 218. Mike Haack, Carlos Concha and Ian Hagen all shot 225 to tie for 50th. Hawai`i rounded out the field, taking 17th (909). Matt Kodama led the Warriors for the fourth time in as many events, tying for 48th. Norman-Ganin Asao was second for the fourth time as well tying for 55th, with a 226.

Cleveleand Golf/Augusta State Invitational
Tulsa competed in the Cleveland Golf/Augusta Invitational at the Forest Hill Golf Club in Augusta, Ga., placing 18th. Sophomore David Inglis carded a 217 landing him 35th, while teammate Neil Trimm finished one stroke behind Inglis, taking 42nd.

Billy Hitchcock Intercollegiate
SMU grabbed their third top-three finish of the spring season, taking third at the Billy Hitchcock Invitational in Auburn, Ala. Jerome Theunis led the Mustangs with a two-under 214, to take third. Franklin Hatchett finished just behind Theunis, tying for fourth with a 215.

Hal Sutton Intercollegiate
Louisiana Tech won its second title this season, taking first at the rain-shortened Hal Sutton Intercollegiate. The event was reduced to one round due to inclamite weather. The Bulldogs shot a four-under 284. Jay Caserta won the event by one stroke. Teammate Brad Wright shot a 71, tying him for seventh.

Border Olympics
Rice finished 16th at the Border Olympics in Loredo, Texas, shooting an 898. Ryan Morgan led the way, tying for 33rd with a 220.

Tournament Recaps (Women)
BYU Dixie Classic

Three teams competed at the BYU Dixie Classic in Provo, Utah. Nevada led the way, tying with Colorado State for eighth, with a 926. Meghan Ingalls grabbed her first top 10 this season, taking seventh with a 222. Teammate Alanda Condon, tied for 24th with a 232. Boise State came in 13th, with a team score of 966. Marie Beasley tied for 15th, carding a 229, while teammate Jennifer Hedberg tied for 53rd with a 241. Hawaii finished 18th, with a three-round total of 987. Rene Krause tied for 19th, scoring a 231.

Ping-ASU Invitational
Tulsa won its second event of the spring season, winning the Ping/ASU Invitational at the Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz. The Golden Hurricane were led by Stacy Prammanasudh, who took third carding a 70-69-73 (212). She has led Tulsa in all but one event this spring. Taking sixth was Maiko Senda, who scored a 218. San Jose State finished ninth, carding a 908. Marcela Leon led the way for the Spartans, taking 17th (223). Three strokes behind her was teammate Helle Gram who finished 25th.

Susie Maxwell Berning Classic
UTEP and SMU attended the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic in Norman, Okla. The Miners tied for 10th, behind strong play from Linda Chen who tied for 24th with a 232. Annie Mallory tied for 29th with a 234. SMU finished 14th, with a 983. Jennifer Gutknecht was the top-Mustang finisher tying for 54th (541). Missy Ryan tied for 62nd (244).

Fresno States Watney, Ben Hogan Finalist/Palmer Cup Attendee
Fresno States Nick Watney is currently the ninth ranked player in the nation. Watney is one of 20 student athletes nominated to be named Best Golfer in College by the Friends of Golf and Colonial Country Club in association with the Golf Coaches Association of America. The most outstanding golfer from May 1, 2001 - May 1, 2002 will be presented with the Ben Hogan Award Monday, May 13. Watney will also play in the sixth Palmer Cup on July 8-12. He is one of eight collegiate players that are representing the United States.
