UTEPs Callie Dand has been named the Western Athletic Conference womens tennis player of the week.

Dand, a sophomore from Knighton, England, went 3-1 from the No. 3 single position, sweeping the WAC opponents she faced. She earned wins over San Jose State, Nevada and Hawai`i. She also teamed up with Elisa Bjrkland to go 4-0 in doubles. The pair set a new school record for single-season doubles wins with 21, passing the old mark of 19 set by Jennifer Diaz and Kristina Jarosova in 1995. The pair has won 12 of their last 13 matches.

Dands next match will be at the WAC Championships, April 26, in Tulsa, Okla.

Other Nominations: Judith Hagedorn of Rice went 2-0 from the No. 4 position for the second week in a row. She is now seventh all-time on the Rice wins list with 83. Anabella Duque of Louisiana Tech was perfect on the week, going 2-0 in both singles and doubles. Boise States Erin Polowski played in the No. 4 singles spot, winning all three singles and doubles matches she played in. Noelle Lee of San Jose State became the third player in the last 15 seasons to win 20 or more singles matches, when she won two over the weekend to improve to 20-8.
