Boise States Graham DeLaet has been named the Western Athletic Conference mens golfer of the week.
DeLaet, a freshman from Weyburn, Saskatchewan, shot a five-under-par 211 to place second at the Fidelity National Title Championship. He set a personal record, shooting a 68 in the first round, only to beat that, shooting a 67 in the second. His second place finish is the highest by a Bronco this season.
DeLaets next event is the BYU Cougar Classic, April 18.
Others Nominated: Fresno States Nick Watney carded a 69-72-69 (210) to take fifth at the Western Intercollegiate. Nathan Fritz of UTEP tied for sixth at the Western Intercollegiate, carding a 72-69-70 (211). Jerome Theunis of SMU placed 14th at the Intercollegiate in Chapel Hill, N.C., posting a two-under 214. Louisiana Techs Jay Caserta took first place at the weather-shortened Hal Sutton Invitational, shooting a career-low 68 in the only round of the event. Isaac Weintraub of San Jose State tied for sixth at the Western Intercollegiate with a 211, becoming the first Spartan in 10 years to under-70 rounds in the same day, shooting 66-67. David Inglis of Tulsa placed 32nd at the Intercollegiate in Chapel Hill, N.C., scoring a two-over 218.
