Fresno State pitcher Jamie Southern and Texas pitcher Cat Osterman are the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I Co-Players of the Week for the week of April 8-14.
Southern, a freshman from Clovis, Calif., pitched 20 scoreless innings to extend her scoreless streak to 44.2 consecutive scoreless innings. She pitched her second perfect game (and third no-hitter) of the season in the Bulldogs' 1-0 victory over San Jose State. For the week, Southern was 3-0 with one save, 24 strikeouts and a 0.00 earned run average.
Osterman, a freshman from Houston, Texas, posted a complete-game 10-inning win in the Longhorns' 2-1 victory over No. 11 Oklahoma, striking out 19 batters, allowing two hits and one unearned run. Osterman also recorded 13 strikeouts in a one-hit shutout over No. 23 Baylor. Her 32 strikeouts last week give her 390 for the season, breaking the Longhorn record of 364 set by two-time Olympian Christa Williams.
Both Southern and Osterman become two-time Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I Player of the Week winners.
