SMUs Libor Charfreitag has been named the Western Athletic Conference mens track and field athlete of the week.
Charfreitag, a senior from Slovakia, won the hammer toss at the Mt. SAC Relays with a throw of 78.58m. The distance is the longest in the NCAA this season and is 10.58m longer than the automatic qualifying distance. Charfreitag is currently ranked first in the nation in this event by TrackWire. This is his second honor of the season; he also won on April 8.
Charfreitags next event is at the Drake Relays, April 25.
Others Nominated: Bashar Ibrahim of UTEP ran a provisional qualifying time of 8:46.5 in the steeplechase at the Mt. SAC Relays. Rices Adam Davis grabbed second in the 800m with a provisional time of 1:48.48 at the LSU Invitational.
